Earth Magic: An Imagination Sparked Series

I am, and probably always will be, a believer in magic. As a kid, I read everything I could find with magic and pets. As an adult, I read as many paranormal romances and cozy mysteries as I can get my hands on. I don’t even want to talk about how much I spent on books when we lived in Regina where the public library had precious few magical tomes. I was, or maybe am, an addict. A magic addict.

Each and every book I read sparked a glimmer of an idea in my head. My first completed novel had magical undertones. I admit that the book was beyond awful and will never see the light of day. However, over the years, the premise behind that inaugural book simmered, like a cauldron on the boil.

The magical ingredient that stirred the spell to life was actually the covers. I follow Crooked Sixpence Book Covers on social media. She has THE BEST paranormal covers. When I saw the covers, I fell in love. I had to have them. This is highly unusual for me. I like to finish a book before I buy the cover. I want the cover to relate what is inside. But these covers, sweet heavenly stars, they ignited a magical fire within me and I woke up with the complete series story arc full blown in my mind.

Four sisters. Four similar, but different, skill sets. Strong family values. Twisted histories. Villains so dark they make you shiver. I had giddy goosebumps just thinking about it. Ideas came at me in a rush.

Ironically, book one, Fire Magic, flowed from my brain, and through my fingers, like water. The words just poured out. With book two, Water Magic, occasionally I thought I would drown under the pressure of getting the story on the page, bringing my vision to life.

With Hyacinth and Earl in book three, Earth Magic, I knew where they were going and what dangers they would face, but they were stubborn. They refused to walk the path I set for them. They kept going off on tangents. Sometimes they were so obstinate they felt real. I struggled to get them onto the page until I began working in my garden in the spring of 2024. The feel of the earth between my fingers and under my nails helped the words flow. And isn’t that magic in itself? I think so.

If I had to choose one skill, the power to move earth would be my favorite. Being able to magically rub some dirt in an annoying person’s face to get them to stop talking. To unbury pretty rocks so I can take them home. To mound the potatoes in my garden. To magically dig a basement for the glorious day when we start building a home on our land.

Now, while I’m off playing with Air Magic, you can catch up on this magical series by reading the first three books.

Watch for Midnight Magic, a companion book to my Three Moon Falls series. It will be in the Ever After Anthology coming from Rowan Prose Publishing in April 2024.  It is also coming as a standalone novella in e-book and print later in 2025.
